Kids Return to Newly Expanded Rebecca S. Breed Clubhouse

Excitement filled the air on September 8, 2025 as the first buses of Greenwich Public School students rolled up to the newly expanded and renovated Rebecca S. Breed Clubhouse. For the first time in two years, more than 400 children streamed through the Club’s familiar doors, only to discover a building that feels brand new.

One young Club member summed up the feeling perfectly: “This isn’t the Boys & Girls Club.”

The renovation project has transformed the Clubhouse into a vibrant, modern space designed to meet the needs of today’s youth. What was once the small gymnasium is now a multi-use activity room. A brand-new gymnasium offers even more space for play and fitness, while the teen center includes dedicated classrooms, breakout rooms, and staff offices. Upstairs, six spacious new classrooms and an arts/STEM space provide opportunities for creative exploration and hands-on learning.

“It was a proud moment to welcome kids back into this building after two years in five satellite locations,” said Don Palmer, VP of Programs & Youth Development. “Our staff worked incredibly hard to maintain programs during construction, but nothing compares to having everyone back under one roof. Seeing the smiles on kids’ faces made it all worth it.”

Cristina Vittoria, CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, said the expansion marks a new chapter in the Club’s legacy of serving the community. “The work we do here is vital to the youth of Greenwich. This new building allows us to serve more kids in an intentional and thoughtful manner,” Vittoria said. “We are so happy to be back together and to have the ability to expand our services to reach even more young people in the years ahead.”

On opening day, Club staff greeted children from all 15 Greenwich Public Schools as they arrived by bus, filling the new space with energy and the spirit of community.

With a full renovation complete, the Rebecca S. Breed Clubhouse is ready to continue its 114-year mission of providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for every child in Greenwich.
