Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich proudly announces the public phase of its $35 million capital campaign—a transformative community effort to renovate and expand the Clubhouse and Camp Simmons to meet the evolving needs of today’s youth and generations to come. To date, the campaign has raised an inspiring 74% of its goal thanks to the generosity of early supporters.
With a generous lead gift from the Breed Family in honor of Rebecca S. Breed’s decades of service, leadership, and unwavering belief in the power of opportunity, the Clubhouse will proudly bear her name. A cherished board member, passionate advocate for children, and lifelong friend of the Club, she leaves behind an extraordinary legacy. The future Rebecca S. Breed Clubhouse will stand as a lasting tribute to her impact and dedication.
“For over a century, the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich has been a cornerstone of opportunity, mentorship, and growth for young people in our community,” said Cristina Vittoria, CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich. “This campaign is about building on that legacy and ensuring our facilities reflect the excellence of our programs. With the incredible generosity of the Breed family, naming the Clubhouse after Rebecca S. Breed is a powerful way to honor someone who gave so much to the Club and to the children of Greenwich.”
The Capital Campaign is funding a complete transformation of the Clubhouse, including: doubling of our learning spaces; adding a regulation-size gymnasium, updated dance and fitness space; adding a dedicated teen center and Club café; an upgrade of the outdoor turf field and addition of an amphitheater; upgrades of the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; and increased safety and security throughout the building.
The Clubhouse project is 74 percent of the way toward the construction goal of $28 million. The overall $35 million campaign includes an additional $7 million for Camp Simmons renovation and sustainability. More than $5.5 million has been raised for the Camp to date, and camp renovations will commence after the Clubhouse is completed.
Alan Breed, son of Rebecca S. Breed, shared his support for the Club’s mission, saying, “Our mother believed in the incredible potential of every child who walked through the Club’s doors. She saw it as more than just a safe space, it was a place where dreams were nurtured, and futures were shaped. Our family is proud to help carry her legacy forward by supporting a place she cared for so deeply."
“This campaign is about more than bricks and mortar, it’s about investing in the future of Greenwich,” said Tony Mann, Capital Campaign Co-Chair. “The Boys & Girls Club not only supports the children in our community, but changes families’ lives. Working parents know that their kids are safe, supported, and surrounded by friends. Giving to BGCG makes a difference by supporting and strengthening our own community. It’s a cause that brings us all together.”
Campaign Co-Chair George Fox added, “I’ve been involved in the Club for 25 years, and it is one of the most rewarding organizations to work with. The Clubhouse renovation is a massive project that will ensure that our community’s young people have a safe space where their lives are improved by academics, athletics and many enrichment programs. We’re thrilled to have the finish line in sight, and now we invite the entire community to help us cross it. It is a community effort, anything and everything you do for us helps.”
The design and construction of the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich Clubhouse is being led by a team of seasoned professionals who bring both experience and heart to the project. KG&D Architects was selected to design the Rebecca S. Breed Clubhouse. Led by Design Principal Erik A. Kaeyer and Principal Sarah Dirsa, the firm has developed a thoughtful and dynamic plan that reflects input from staff, youth, and Club leadership alike.
A.P. Construction (APC), a Stamford-based construction manager with a strong portfolio of projects in Greenwich, is overseeing construction from start to finish. APC’s deep understanding of building community-focused facilities ensures the project is on time, on budget, and aligned with the design team’s vision.
BGCG’s Owner’s Representatives—Richard Browne of Sterling Project Development (SPD) and Nancy Risman, a former board member and dedicated Club supporter—are generously providing their time and expertise on a pro bono basis. Their combined experience managing large, complex projects has been invaluable to the process.
With $8.3 million remaining to reach the campaign goal, BGCG invites individuals, families, and businesses to join in this transformative effort. Every contribution—large or small—will help create a sustainable Boys & Girls Club designed for the next 100 years of youth success.
