Beam Signing Event Marks Milestone for New Clubhouse

On a crisp fall afternoon, youth and staff from Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich gathered at the construction site of the new clubhouse to leave their mark — literally. As part of the expansion and renovation project, a special beam signing event invited participants to write their names and messages of hope on a structural beam. This beam now proudly stands as part of the frame of the Club’s soon-to-be gymnasium, a centerpiece of the expanded facility.

The energy at the site was electric as kids lined up to sign their names, eager to leave a lasting legacy on the place they call a second home. “Signing the beam felt like an opportunity of a lifetime and was a symbol of a new beginning. Knowing that a piece of my legacy will be left in the Club feels amazing and empowering,” said 10th grader Taylor.

Sixth grader Adriana shared her excitement, “The tour was great, and I loved writing my name on the beam. It felt like I will be a part of the Boys & Girls Club forever!”

Echoing his fellow Club kids, 12th grader Calijah Joseph said, “I really can’t wait to see all the new rooms, especially the cafe, teen center, and teen break out rooms. Writing my name on the beam was so mind blowing, because they have always said, ‘Once a Club kid, always a Club kid,’ and I fully feel that in my heart now.”

Staff members, who have tirelessly supported the youth throughout the clubhouse’s renovation, were also given a moment to reflect on their role in this exciting new chapter. For many, signing the beam symbolized their commitment to the future of the Club and its members.

“This event reminds us what this project is truly about: our kids and the amazing staff who make this Club so special,” said Cristina Vittoria, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich. “The names on that beam represent hope, resilience, and the bright future we are building together.”

George Fox, longtime Board member and Co-chair of the Capital Campaign committee, added, “Seeing our youth and staff come together to mark this milestone is inspiring. This project is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about creating a space where children and teens can thrive for generations to come.”

As the beam was hoisted into place, cheers erupted from the group, a heartfelt reminder of the power of community. For many of the kids, this was not just a construction update, it was a glimpse into the opportunities the new space will bring.

When the renovated and expanded clubhouse opens, the gymnasium will be a hub of activity, hosting sports, fitness classes, academic programming, and community events that inspire healthy lifestyles and long-term friendships. Until then, the excitement continues to build as Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich moves closer to realizing its vision for a modern, inspiring facility.
