Out of over 500 entries from the northeast, BGCG winners are Anika Gupta for her monochromatic drawing in the 6-8 years old age group for her self-portrait and Betsy Dasilva for her pastel drawing of a pencil in the 9-12 years old age group. “I am so proud of the girls and ALL of our members and their entries,” says Stephanie Pugliese, Education/Technology Coordinator.
As a winner at the regional level, the girls’ pieces will move along for national viewing in Atlanta at the Boys & Girls Club of America headquarters. By June, the Club will be notified of the 2012 National winners; should either piece be recognized as a national winner, it will stay on exhibit in Atlanta for the year.
Every year, the Boys & Girls Club of America hosts a National Fine Arts Competition. This program operates year round and promotes artistic expression among Club members ages 6-18 while providing opportunities for members to create artwork to display locally. This event offers kids a chance to see that amazing works of art can come from their peers too and not just adults. Up to 37 pieces of art (one piece per age group/category and one for the Group Project category) are selected from a Club’s local exhibit and sent to one of seven regional judging events. At each regional judging, artwork is chosen and sent to BGCA National Headquarters for selection for the National Fine Arts exhibit. The works of art are displayed throughout the ensuing year at BGCA events including the National Conference.
